If you’ve walked down Main Street recently, the electric blue and neon orange branding of Street Hawker has probably caught your eye. It’s loud, it’s retro, and as a designer, I can appreciate the effort put into the arcade-style aesthetic. But does the food hold up? I stopped by for a budget-friendly dinner to see if their smash burgers could compete with local favourites.
We ordered the Sonic Shroom, Hyper Fries, and the All-American.

Straight away, the patty style reminded me of Between 2 Buns in Chinatown. They nail the “smash” technique with lacey, crispy edges and a juicy centre.
- The Sonic Shroom: If you enjoy earthy flavours, this is for you. The truffle sauce is excellent, though I found the burger a little on the salty side.
- The All-American: A solid, standard choice. The cheese is melted perfectly, and it hits that classic fast-food craving.
However, if you want the best value, I’d actually recommend sticking to the classic Street Hawker burger. It’s significantly cheaper and honestly just as satisfying.
We tried the Hyper Fries, which come loaded with cheese, bacon, and special sauce. But tbh, you don’t need the upgrade. While they look great in photos, the toppings didn’t add enough to the experience to justify the price or the mess. The crinkle-cut fries are crispy and good enough to stand on their own as original fries.
