Tru cafe, caffeine, cookies, and a cozy little pause

There’s a special kind of comfort in cafés that don’t overcompensate, just the smell of goodness being brewed. It’s the same quiet I look for at Oishinoya’s solo booths when I want to eat without performing, just a different kind of calm.

That’s Tru Cafe, a small spot near Granville Island.

We ordered a warm matcha latte and an iced latte. The pistachio matcha cookie was the highlight with perfect mix of crisp edges and a soft, buttery middle that melts away in your mouth. The chocolate coconut and double chocolate were slightly sweet and also soft.

The cafe’s vibe leans golden light reflecting off wood, faint chatter of people, and a big wall clock keeping time.

Getting there is simple too: from downtown Vancouver, hop on bus 50 (False Creek South) and get off near West 4th Avenue and Fir Street. From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to the cafe.

If you’re wandering near Granville Island and want to sit and relax at a local spot, Tru Cafe might be the one. Tru made my roundup of Vancouver food and coffee spots I keep going back to for exactly this reason.
