Thor’s hammer and kimbap cravings at Oh! Joy Kimbap

tuna and beef kimbap

Sometimes you have to venture out to the suburbs for the really good stuff. This weekend the craving for authentic Korean food hit hard so I made the trip out to Surrey, near Guildford Mall, to check out a spot called Oh! Joy Kimbap.

The coolest bottle opener ever

First things first. We ordered a cold Cass beer to start. Usually you just get a standard opener, right? Not here.

The server dropped off a mini Mjölnir. A THOR HAMMER.

Opening beer with Thor hammer

It was the cutest, funniest thing. It looks so cool and thug like you are about to do some heavy construction, but then it’s just to pop open a drink lol.

The food spread

Okay, onto the serious stuff. We ordered the Spicy Tteokbokki with cheese and noodles (rabokki), plus two rolls of kimbap: the Beef and the Tuna.

The presentation was lovely. Everything is served on these clean wooden trays with metal cups that keep the water super cold.

The tteokbokki came out sizzling in a metal pan. It was the perfect shade of fiery red, topped with hard-boiled eggs and plenty of fish cakes. The spice level was just right.

Here is a tip for you guys if you visit:

Overall verdict

It was such a great experience. It’s casual, the food is comforting, and the little details like the hammer make it memorable. If you are ever in Surrey and need a kimbap fix, definitely swing by.

📍 Oh! Joy Kimbap – how to get here:

  1. Take the Expo Line Skytrain all the way to Surrey Central Station.
  2. Hop on the R1 or 320 bus to Guildford.
  3. Get off at the mall, walk down 152nd Street (past the mall), and turn left on 102A Avenue. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the bus loop.
