Cat therapy in Richmond – A visit to PetPls

A chubby silver cat with folded ears sitting against the wall (looks like a Scottish Fold).

If you ever need an hour of quiet happiness, go spend it with cats. That’s exactly what I did last weekend at PetPls in Richmond, a pet store that also offers a cozy cat therapy aka adoption lounge.

PetPls mainly sells cat food, snacks, and toys, but the real gem is its cat meet-and-greet room, where visitors can spend time with adoptable cats for $9 per 30 minutes or $16 for an hour. It’s clean, bright, and surprisingly calm, which is more like a modern lounge than a shelter.

Inside were cats of EVERY personality. You guess it. A curious and confident black Egyptian Mau climbed up my partner’s shoulder to get a better view of the room. A round and majestic Scottish Fold sat nearby, lounging against the wall like they owned the place. I found myself next to a snow-white Exotic Shorthair with caramel patches, who seemed completely content in such a pure cat zen vibe.

There was also a silky Ragdoll with piercing blue eyes and a plush British Shorthair Golden observing the room. Even a playful tabby joined the mix, wide-eyed and ready for attention. Each had their own little world going on.

If you’re ever in Richmond, PetPls is worth a visit. Each visit helps fund care for the cats while they wait for their furrever homes. Whether you stop by for 30 minutes or an hour, you’re not only getting a dose of cat therapy but you’re also supporting local rescues and giving these cats the comfort they deserve.

Tips: Make a day of it in Richmond by trying out the dumplings at Shanghai River or laksa hotpot at Deer One.
